Lely's goal is to get a fast, smooth and full milking for every cow. Every animal is different and their needs vary throughout their lactation. Therefore, the goal of optimizing brushing time is to reduce bimodality (i.e. delay in milk ejection) without compromising robot capacity, cow comfort, or udder health.
Reducing bimodality is very important for good teat health and cow comfort. In fact, following several bimodalities, there can be irreparable damage to the teat tissues and cause hyperkeratosis of the sphincters.
For a successful milking, preparation is essential. Lely brushes clean and stimulate teats before milking with a pre-set number and brushing time. With the arrival of the optimization of brushing time, all cows having recorded bimodal milkings during the past week will have optimized brushing times.
